“How to a use your FRS or hand-held radio effectively
in an emergency”
Some of you may have never used a portable 2-way radio before. Others of you may have learned sloppy radio procedures which could stand gentle correction. Whether you are “mic shy” or have simply gotten rusty in radio operating procedure and need a refresher in basics, this workshop should be helpful. Particularly, if you have never used a 2-way radio before, these materials will make doing so less intimidating and give you a quick-start to using your radio more effectively in an emergency.
The Julian Teen CERT led a school wide drill at the Jr High School in which the whole school either watched or participated in on Dec. 6th 2011 at the Julian Junior High School. The Teens led Search and Rescue, Triage, Medical support and treatment, Operations and then made a presentation to their classmates on what they learned and did during the drill and the benefits of joining Teen CERT.
Photos from the drill are posted on Picasa.
Johnny and Diane with the help of Sherie Rumble ran a TTT class in Beaumont for their EOS, Emergancy Responders and Fire fighters. The finale to the class was to bring in five recently graduated Teen CERT members to critique the trainers in a “Teach Back” segment. The teens and trainers all did a very professional job, now providing this area with a group of instructors who will be able to fulfill the training of new Teen CERTs to the community who will be able to aid in the event of an emergency.
The Teen CERT program in Julian just graduated a new class of Teens. Included in this class was Tiffany Espensen of the TV show from Nickelodeon “Bucket and Skinner”. Tiffany is hoping to become the national spokesperson for FEMA’s Teen CERT program.
